Terry says “Thank you”
Terry Wilford was elected on 22nd May 2014 beating the sitting Labour councillor into 3rd place. Terry now joins Cllrs. David & Ann Blackburn to give Farnley & Wortley total Green representation once again.
Cllr. Terry Wilford said “I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. I am now making it my priority to get stuck in with representing our community and working together with you all.”
Terry now has a place on the Resources & Council Services Scrutiny Board,
Ann is a member of the Safer & Stronger Communities Scrutiny Board and Member Management Ctte. and David is on City Plans Panel and General Purposes Ctte.
David continues to chair the council’s Climate Change Working Group, and has been re-elected as Chair of Roseville Enterprises (the Council’s workshop for the disabled). All three councillors are members of the Outer West Community Ctte.
NO. 5 BUS ROUTE
Cllr. Ann Blackburn met with First Bus representatives Bob Dorr (Business Manager, Leeds) and Richard Gledhill (Commercial Manager, W. Yorks) on 10th June 2014 to enforce our view that the revised route should revert back to what it was before the last changes were made (the bus should travel on Whincover Drive etc). Mr. Dorr stated that he would look into the matter to see what he could do to help. A follow up meeting is to be held in July.
ASDA – Oldfield Lane, Appeal to extend Delivery Hours to include Sun./Bank Holiday 10am – 4pm
The Planning Inspector refused ASDA’s application for Sunday/Bank Holiday deliveries after receivingobjections from local residents and visiting the site. She stated that she did not see the need for the store to have Sunday deliveries when they already were allowed deliveries up to 8pm on Saturday.
WORTLEY HOUSING OFFICE – Revised Opening Hours
Following on from your Green Party Councillors request for extended opening hours this Housing Office now opens from 8.30am to 4.30pm Mon. to Fri., except Weds.when it opens 8.30am to 3.00pm.
TESCO TOLD ‘NO’ TO EXTENSION OF OPENING AND DELIVERY HOURS
The Planning Panel turned down Tesco’s application for 24 hour opening and delivery hours of 6am to midnight Mon – Sun at Stonebridge Mills after hearing objections from the local community. Tesco have now stated that they will not be building the store next year, as planned, as they have put the development “on hold” at the moment.
NEWS FROM AROUND THE WARD
PAS LAND AT THE BACK OF CASTLE INGS GARDENS
Locals informed us that this land has been dug up and that they had been told that the owner was going to remove the hedgerows. Cllr. Ann Blackburn has contacted Planning, and a Planning Compliance Officer (enforcement) has done a site visit and a letter has now been sent to the owners stating that planning permission is required to remove hedgerows. The Tree Preservation Officer has put a Notice on site stating that the trees are to have a Tree Preservation Order put on them.
PARKS – PLAYGROUNDS
Following up Terry’s concern about the state of the play-grounds in our parks, we are pleased to report that all the vandalised safety surfacing has now been repaired and the missing swings have been replaced.
20 mph Zone Scheme – Five Lanes Primary School
Highways have consulted local councillors on this scheme. Cllr. David Blackburn has asked that Highways look at including the Kitsons and the nearby Amberley Road in this scheme. Local residents will be consulted on the scheme shortly.
PLANNING NO. 14/00521 154 Dwellings – Royds Lane (Nr. Macro)
Taylor Wimpey and Wortley Green Ltd. have applied to build a mixture of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses and two blocks of 2 bedroom flats (16 per block) on this site. Cllrs. David & Ann Blackburn have visited the site with the council’s planning officer and developer and mentionedcertain concerns to them. PARKING PROBLEMS ON LEEDS UTD. MATCH DAYS
All three Green councillors met with Highways this month. They stated that they are working on a scheme for Residents Only Parking to cover parts of Beeston and Wortley. The Dragons and Lynwoods are included in the Wortley Scheme. Your councillors have requested that Highfield Avenue (and the nearby streets), Walker Lane, Kellett Crescent and part of the nearby Whitehall Road are also included in this scheme.
