Ann Blackburn – Farnley & Wortley

Ann Blackburn has been selected as the Green Party candidate for Farnley & Wortley in the local council elections on 7th May 2015.

Ann is married to David Blackburn. She has a grown up son and step-daughter. Originally from Armley, she has lived in Farnley for 32 years, having worked in that area previous to that time. Ann has represented the ward as a Councillor in the Farnley & Wortley area since 2002.

Ann says: “Currently I am very concerned about the various council cuts, particularly the ones involving Youth Services. I think it is important that young people have something to do outside school and I have given my support to many groups that provide activities for youngsters in my ward. I also do what I can to assist groups run for older residents in our ward, including the neighbourhood Networks. If you want a hard working committed local person, who has a record of working tirelessly in the ward throughout the year, then I ask you to elect me on Thursday 7th May to ensure Farnley & Wortley continues to have a full team of Green Party Councillors to work on your behalf”

Terry Wilford elected in Farnley & Wortley ward tops a day of promising results

Greens in Leeds are celebrating today after Terry Wilford was elected in Farnley & Wortley ward to bring the total of Green councillors once again to three. The sitting Labour councillor, who was elected in a larger turn out for the General Election in 2010, found himself beaten into third by UKIP. A UKIP surge made the result closer than most years, but Terry’s 1900 votes and 34.33% share proved worthy reward for hard work throughout the year leading up to the election.

The full result follows:

Surname Forename Votes Elected Party name
Felber Alan 1606 UKIP
Fisher Samuel 416 Cons
Hardy John Hamilton 1506 Labour
Jacques Robert Hugh 76 Lib Dems
Johnson Michael James 30 TUSC
Wilford Terry 1900 ELECTED Green Party

A delighted Terry said of the result:

“I am just so pleased to be elected and want to do right by the ward and raise the Green profile with an outstandingly human empathy touch. A big thank you to everyone for their support, I hope to repay that trust in me. I want to positively address issues, and increase awareness of the green agenda.”

In the other Leeds West wards the Green results were as follows:

Armley Yvonne Clark  669 (12.92%)

Bramley & Stanningley Kate Bisson   358 (7.51%)

Kirkstall Morgan Tatchell-Evans 724 (14.28%)

There were some very postive results elsewhere in Leeds. In Headingley Joe Salmon moved the Green Party from third to clear second with 1036 votes finishing 260 votes behind the Labour victor. This represented a 29.99% share of the vote, up from the 16.56% obtained in 2012. It was clear that the NGT Trolleybus issue garnered plenty of new support for the Greens. In the nextdoor ward of Hyde Park & Woodhouse, Chris Foren finished second with 865 votes (22.46%) beating both Conservative and Liberal Democrat candidates. The Greens finished third in Armley, Chapel Allerton, City & Hunslet, Garforth & Swillington, and Kirkstall.

Across the city 17203 people voted Green, an average of 9.17% per ward. The Green Party beat the Liberal Democrats in 26 wards and the Conservatives in 6 wards.
