The Green Party took to the road again on New Year’s Day to run its free hourly New Year’s Day Bus Service.

Cllrs. David & Ann Blackburn organised the minibus, which was sponsored by local businesses. Our voluntary drivers took on passengers old and new. A total of 218 passengers journeys were logged. The bus ran hourly from Armley Town Street, including Farnley & Wortley, to City Square and the reverse of the route.

No 5. Bus Campaign a Success

The campaign started back in November 2013 after the bus route was revised to miss out most of Whincover Drive and local people told us that they wanted the old route reinstated. During the last two years Cllrs. David & Ann Blackburn have had meetings with First Bus requesting that the farnley part of the route be changed back. They have now been told this will happen on 20th February 2016.

The existing No. 5 service will be replaced by a new service 15 (Leeds-Old Farnley). The new service will revert to the old route in Old Farnley to serve Whincover Drive and Butt Lane in both directions. The frequency will reduce to every 30 minutes.

Bus Operator Changes

Service 711 (Bradford-Pudsey-White Rose Centre)
Ladies Only Travel (Trading as LOT) will be running this service on a commercial basis from 21st February 2016 instead of Yorkshire Tiger.

Service 252 (Leeds-Cleckheaton-Dewsbury)
Mon-Sat evening and Sunday evening journeys after 19.00 will be operated by Ladies Only Travel from 20th February 2016

Please note that despite the company name Ladies Only Travel will transport anyone regardless of gender

Flooding

Elderly residents in the Branch Road area (whose homes had previously been flooded) called on Cllr Ann Blackburn for assistance when the Ring Road flooded in Farnley & Wortley on 12th December 2016. She stayed there from 10pm to 12.15am liaising with the police, who were stopping vehicles driving through the flooded area, as highways had no barriers. She has also contacted Yorkshire Water to request that they clean out the Farnley Compensation Reservoir.

Leeds Utd Match Day Only – Residents Permit Parking Scheme

Bearing in mind the delay with this scheme. Cllr Ann Blackburn raised the matter at the November Council Meeting. Since then Officers have met with your local councillors and informed them that consultation letters will be going out by the end of the first week in February 2016 to see if residents are agreeable to a Match Day Only Scheme being introduced.

Question Time

Cllr David Blackburn did a Question and Answer session on Waste & Recycling at Farnley Academy on 19th January 2016

Land at top of Benson Gardens

Local residents have raised concerns with your local Councillors regarding work done on this land, and they have taken the matte up with council officers who are looking into the matter.
