Update on the refuse service and outline of recovery plan

The following communication has been passed to your local Councillors:

8th March

As promised here is an update on the service and to outline the recovery plan:

Whilst the thaw has been fast this afternoon, conditions this morning were really atrocious, and unfortunately collections have been significantly disrupted again today. As I said this morning, we were still working behind on collections due to the disruption last week, so clearly this has been a set-back to our recovery schedule.

With that in mind, we’ve taken the difficult decision to suspend green bin collections for the rest of the week, so that we can focus on the recovery of black bins. Feedback from Elected Members and the public (mainly via Social Media) has been that we should prioritise recovering missed black bins over scheduled green bin collections.

If all goes well this should get us to the position where the service can return to normal scheduled collections from Monday. It will also enable us to recover any black bins from last week that have still not been collected.

Key messages to the public are therefore:

  • If your black bin has been missed today, or last week, please leave it out for collection and we will empty it as soon as possible.
  • If your green bin has not been emptied, please put it away, and present it for collection on your next scheduled collection day with any extra recycling at the side of the bin.
  • Take your garden waste bin back in. The service is suspended until 12th March, and we will not be recovering collections so that we can concentrate on black bins.

These messages will be cascaded via Social Media, the website and Customer Services. Any help you can give us to get the message out would be welcomed.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks,

Tom.

Latest news on refuse and recycling collections

The following communication has been passed to your local Councillors:

5th March 2018

A further brief update on the situation with refuse and recycling collections this morning.

The weather improved significantly on Saturday and yesterday which means that most residential streets are now accessible to our crews. Given the suspension of service last Thursday, the majority of the service is currently working one day behind on collections. We have some additional resources in place every day undertaking recovery and hope to have collections back on schedule by the end of the week.

Whilst we have recovered the vast majority of missed black bin collections from last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and many of the green bins, we unfortunately do not have enough staffing/vehicle resources available to undertake any further recovery collections from those days.

Key messages to residents are therefore:
· If your black or green bin was due on Wednesday 28th February, Thursday 1st March, or Friday 2nd March and has still not been emptied – please put it away and we will collect it on your next scheduled collection. We will take side waste at the next scheduled collection.
· We are currently working a day behind on scheduled collections since Saturday 3rd March, so please leave your black or green bins out.
· Take your garden waste bin back in. The service is suspended until 12th March, and we will not be recovering collections so that we can concentrate on black and green bins.

These messages will be cascaded via Social Media, the website and Customer Services. Any help you can give us to get the message out would be welcomed.

I hope this is helpful.
